This song has gone through many permutations, and I can see even more. This is the best one so far. A night of intoxication and contemplation of the Void ended up with me flipping through a book of Poe recombobulating poetry into this, possibly the best homage to Poe I've seen yet. And, well, I did, sort of, encode a layer of occult symbolism for those with eyes to see. Hey, at least I tried. Enjoy, and dance macabre.
lyrics
Angel song bewinged, bedight in veils, and drowned in tears
Come and take your seat to see a play of hopes and fears
Mimes in form of God on high, mere puppets come and go
Shifting formless scenery across the endless woe
See amid the mimic rout, a crawling shape intrude!
Blood-red thing that stalks from out the scenic solitude
Writhing form, with mortal pangs, the mimes become its food
Seraphs sob at vermin fangs in human gore imbued
Evil things in robes of sorrow take the high estate
Mourn! for never morrow dawn upon the desolate!
Like a ghastly river flowing through the pale door
Hideous! the rushing throng that laugh--but smile no more
Visions of the darkest night, my screams are joy departed
Waking dreams of life and light hath left me broken-hearted
What is not a dream by day to him whose eyes are cast
On things all around him with a ray upon the past?
Palpitating winds help lilies cool their fragrant tops
Tears descend in gems from off their stems and down in drops
Murmuring uneasily, the misty flowers wave
Weeping uncontrollably above my empty grave
